Balsam Lake is named for the Balsam Fir which is prevalent around the lake and throughout the township. Balsam lake is a great lake for fishing and exploring. | ||

Northern Pike, bluegill, black crappie, largemouth bass, walleye, tullibee, yellow perch, white sucker, rock bass, pumpkinseed sunfish. |

There is a protected slot for northern pike, which went into effect in 2006. Anglers will have to release all pike that are 24 to 36 inches long, but may keep one over 36 inches in the possession limit. | ||
Two smaller lakes are accessible from Balsam via a shallow creek. | ||
